Description *** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Duties: Exhibit Design and Development - Design visual components for permanent and temporary exhibits including panels, graphics, signage, wayfinding, and interactive visuals.
- Collaborate with the exhibit team to develop design concepts that align with cultural, scientific, and educational goals.
- Prepare files for fabrication and work with vendors, contractors, and internal teams for production and installation.
- Ensure accessibility, cultural sensitivity, and user engagement in exhibit designs.
Graphic Design & Visual Communication - Create original designs for print and digital materials including flyers, brochures, newsletters, posters, annual reports, and signage.
- Ensure brand alignment and design consistency across all collateral.
- Maintain and update a digital archive of design templates and assets.
- Provide design support for fundraising, development, and educational outreach efforts.
Marketing & Outreach Support - Assist in the development of integrated marketing campaigns to promote exhibits, programs, and events.
- Design promotional content for social media, email marketing, and web platforms.
- Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of visual campaigns and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate with communications staff to maintain a cohesive visual brand across all public-facing materials.
Digital Media and Website Content - Support content creation for web and digital platforms, including responsive graphics and short-form video.
- Ensure digital media meets accessibility and usability standards.
- Assist in updating web pages and managing digital assets.
Administrative and Collaborative Support - Participate in project meetings, brainstorm sessions, and exhibit reviews.
- Assist in procurement and vendor management for graphic and exhibit production.
- Provide guidance to student assistants or interns as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - Possession of a baccalaureate degree in graphic design, exhibit design, marketing, communications, art, or a related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience in visual design or marketing; or equivalent education/training or experience.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat).
- Demonstrated experience in creating print and digital design materials.
- Experience in exhibit design or museum/gallery environments.
- Familiarity with Hawaiian culture, language, and values, or experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Experience in post-secondary institution graphic design
- Strong attention to detail and ability to translate concepts into visual form.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
Desirable Qualifications: - Photography and/or videography skills.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards for exhibit and digital design.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress), email marketing tools, or social media management platforms.
- Hawaiian Language proficiency
