The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology is currently recruiting for a Special Investigator to conduct administrative investigations in response to complaints alleging violations of business and professions code and Board regulations.

Working Conditions

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, they must reside in the State of California once they are hired and start working.

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period as outlined on "Section 2113 - Personal Leave Program (PLP)" of the CalHR Manual. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.

Minimum age for appointment: 21 years

The Special Investigator classification requires a medical evaluation prior to being hired to determine if the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job safely and effectively. 

The position(s) require(s) a valid driver's license (DL). Provide a photocopy in PDF format of the front and back of your DL, clearly showing your name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL number, class, and expiration.

• Statement of Qualifications -

  A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted with your application. The SOQ will serve as documentation of your ability to present written information clearly and concisely. The SOQ must be typed, single spaced, in Arial 12 pt. font, and be no more than one page in length. Please notate “Statement of Qualifications” and your name in the upper right corner. A resume will not be accepted as an alternative to the SOQ. Applications submitted without an SOQ will not be considered.
