Research Assistant Professor, Source Project; 10 mo. 3-year term (renewable)
We seek applicants with a Ph.D. in a Humanities or Social Science discipline (or from an interdisciplinary doctoral program) who have a commitment to interdisciplinary and experiential learning to join the Source Project ( , Binghamton University's distinctive first-year research program in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The position begins August, 2026. PhD in hand by appointment required.
The Source Project is a sequence of two, four-credit courses over the fall and spring semesters (research streams), where first-year students have the opportunity to conduct authentic research and generate new results. Students will ask questions and seek answers, guided by faculty who can help identify topics and appropriate research methods. Students will produce original projects that express their findings and learn how to communicate the relevance of what they have found with classmates as well as others in the University's Research Days poster sessions.
The successful candidate will teach two research streams per year, either two sections of one theme or two differently themed streams. Each stream is capped at 25 students. This amounts to a 2/2 teaching load with a maximum of 50 students each semester. Each course carries associated departmental rubrics and general education designations. In addition, the Research Assistant Professor will be responsible for advising students, a dynamic research agenda, and University service on behalf of the Source Project, the External Scholarships and Undergraduate Research center, and the Division of Academic Affairs.

Required Qualifications:
PhD in a Humanities or Social Science discipline (or from an interdisciplinary doctoral program) by August 22, 2026
Documented college teaching experience
Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate research
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching first-year college students
