Position: Safety and Security Coordinator FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-exempt, 11 month (August - June)
Reports to: Head of School
Job Summary The Safety & Security Coordinator ensures the safety of all students and staff at the school. The Security Coordinator is a visible and proactive presence in the school, interacting with students, parents, vendors, and visitors. They conduct drills; interface with law enforcement, the fire department, and other safety entities in the county and state; and oversee the safety protocols and systems in the school.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities - Serve as plain-clothed, armed security personnel during school hours, arrival, and dismissal.
- Oversee the school security system to include camera monitoring systems, alarm systems, and related security systems.
- Lead the Emergency Response Team.
- Collaborate and lead efforts to ensure building and community safety during weather related events, such as snow, hail, or tornado.
- Report security and safety incidents to the Head of School.
- Create/update protocols for fire, tornado, earthquake, intruder, and other emergency and disaster plans.
- Train faculty and staff on emergency and security protocols.
- Coordinate and lead emergency and security drills.
- Serve as point of contact for fire, security systems, and EMS services.
- Coordinate fire system tests and inspections.
- Assist Business Manager/Human Resource in conducting background checks on potential employees.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and division directors to uphold campus standards and contribute to a positive environment, maintaining an active and physical presence throughout the school day.
- Oversee the distribution and collection of keys, security codes, etc for employees during onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Coordinate parking duty rotations, and be present for arrival and dismissal each day, ensuring the safety of the parking lots.
- Maintain vigilant awareness of all individuals entering the school during the day, prioritizing the well-being of the campus community.
- Monitor surveillance cameras and control access to the school.
- Work with maintenance staff on the facility as needed.
- Oversee the development and implementation of emergency and incident management plans for the safety and security of our students, employees and visitors. Make recommendations for new and revised policies, procedures and methods related to campus operations.
- Support the mission of the school and reflect positively on CIS.
- Serve as the Local Agency Security Officer (LASO) and maintain Criminal Justice Information compliance.
Other Duties - Coordinate with volunteer groups and assist with projects and events.
- Provide security for larger evening events, as needed.
- Effectively manage stress in various situations, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.
- Back-up the facilities staff, when needed.
- Support the school and its leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
